Measuring impact

How will we measure impact?

  • Monitoring which depression questionnaires are used by researchers at the Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) after our guidance and seeing how they compare with what our survey showed the public prefers
  • Asking researchers why they chose them
  • Assessing whether our project improves both the research experience for participants and the quality of data collected.

How will we ensure this impact is lasting?

  • Sustainable change – by showing the real value of patient and public involvement, we hope to inspire lasting change in the way mental health research is carried out.
  • Lasting resources – publishing clear guidance, an academic paper, and an anonymised dataset that researchers can use beyond this project.
  • Stronger connections – building long-term partnerships between researchers, PPIE groups, and mental health charities, ensuring patient voices continue to shape research.
  • Wider influence – starting conversations with funders and the NHS about questionnaire choices, guided by lived experience and evidence.
